Hens and chicks

In a red shoe.

Prickling.

Baubles sparkle

The dandelion

Is not outdone.

Gardening

Crunchy cucumbers both green and lemon

Tantalizing tomatoes, not only red, not only round

Plenty to store and many, many more

Fragrant basil, pesto all winter long

Noble potatoes, red, russet and yellow

Sweet hot red, green and purple peppers

Lettuce, mustard, arugula and spinach

Edible lemon marigolds, glorious nasturtiums

And bee balm for hummingbirds’ delight

Chives, horseradish and pungent fresh garlic

And pretty peas all in the pod.
